Our story
YayDay started as a paper calendar for my daughter. It is on the internet now because she loved it too much to keep to ourselves.
I made a countdown calendar for my daughter. It was paper, and it stayed paper for years — one more every time something big was coming.
As she grew up, it ended up on her phone instead. She loved it just as much there, and that is when it seemed worth building properly and sharing with everyone else.
Here is the thing about waiting: it is usually the hardest part. Worry and fear rattle us for weeks — and then we go through the thing and realise it was not so bad after all.
The good things work the same way, just in reverse. We spend weeks excited about a day, and then the day arrives and it is gone in a moment. Christmas is the clearest example. All of December counting down, the whole house magical — and then Christmas morning is over before you have finished your coffee.
So we did not build this to celebrate the event.
We built it to celebrate the wait.
